McDonald’s $1 Coke Mindy Kaling Commercial – Woman in Yellow Dress

Mindy Kaling in McDonald's Commercial

McDonald’s has released an original ad, in which its name is not mentioned, to promote the limited time offer of $1 for any size Coke.

The spot, created by Chicago-based agency called We Are Unlimited, starts with the actress Mindy Kaling dressed in a yellow dress on a stage against a red background, talking to the phone with someone who’s just informed her that the event, meant to celebrate “That Place Where Coke Tastes so Good”, is cancelled, which makes her get down the stage and leave. On the way, she explains to viewers that they were supposed to do really big today, but they pulled a plug. “So no announcement That Place Where Coke Tastes so Good! That is… I don’t even know what to tell you.” – says Kaling, who’s approached then by an assistant telling her not to freak out. “I know, they told me.”, she answers to the agitated young woman, who starts to follow her around.

Kaling starts to inform all the people involved that their services are no longer needed, including the 1$ Coke Dancers, an unknown pink-haired singer getting ready to perform on a stage, with two men costumed in a panda bear and a pig next to her, a bunch of men on small motorcycles hired to jump through flaming hoops, and an orchestra.

“So That Place Where Coke Tastes so Good now offers any size for $1, but we’re not announcing where that is, which sort of messes up our advertising. You can still google search for it”, says Kaling at the end of the spot, as she’s deflating a huge balloon with the writing “That Place Where Coke Tastes so Good” and getting on a small car to leave the set.

This is not the first ad in which audience is urged to Google. Burger King has done the same thing recently, releasing a 15-second spot in which an employee, arguing there’s not enough time to list all the fresh ingredients used for a specific sandwich, asks voice-responsive Google devices to name them.

McDonald’s $1 offer, which cannot be combined with any other offer of any combo meal, includes not only Coke, but also other drinks, such as Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, Dr Pepper, and Diet Dr Pepper, Sprite, and Hi-C Orange Lavaburst. The fast-food giant has also a $2 offer, for small McCafé Chocolate Shake, McCafé Vanilla Shake, McCafé Strawberry Shake, McCafé Frappé Mocha, McCafé Frappé Caramel, McCafé Frappé Chocolate Chip, and McCafé Strawberry Banana Smoothie.
