“It’s not Cinco de Mayo without Avocados From Mexico.” – this is the message conveyed in the latest commercial released by Avocados from Mexico, highlighting that their avocados are “always fresh, always delicious, and always ready to celebrate any time or place”.
“When you open an avocado from Mexico, you open a Cinco de Mayo party”, says the voiceover in the 30-second spot, while on screen a woman is shown in her kitchen, surrounded by Mexican musicians the moment she opens an avocado. The same musicians show up at the wake organized for an old lady, turning it into a party, when an avocado is opened.
Cinco de Mayo (also known as the fifth of May) is a holiday commemorating the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). While in Mexico this is a relatively minor holiday, in the US Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.
