Universal Pictures has released a second trailer for the upcoming action thriller Atomic Blonde, starring Oscar winner Charlize Theron.
Directed by David Leitch, the film follows secret agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) on a mission in Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city. Through the deadly game of spies she must navigate, Broughton partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy). “I chose this life and someday it’s going to get me killed. But not today.”, says Theron’s character, this time brunette, in the trailer, which starts featuring her shooting a man in the head in a hotel room and then drinking a glass of votka. When she learns that her fellow spy, who had “an atomic bomb of information” and with whom she had a love affair, has been found dead in Berlin, she hides her feelings, without admitting that she knew him, and burns the foto she had of them.
In Berlin, where she’s supposed to trust no one, she kills all her enemies and, using her skills, makes sure she doesn’t get killed. The trailer reveals also the encounter with Percival, the “contact” she makes with a beautiful brunette, who proves to be a French operative who gets strangled. In another scene, Broughton tells her boss that someone from the inside has set her up and that she needs a bullet.
“This summer, payback goes atomic” – is the message conveyed in the trailer, which ends with Percival telling her that he thinks he loves her and getting in response “That’s too bad.”
The songs used in the trailer are “Blue Monday ’88” by New Order, “Black Skinhead” by Kanye West and “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode.
