Toyota Australia introduces the HiLux Tonka as the “king of the sandpit” in its latest commercial.
The one-of-a-kind concept vehicle from Toyota shows you what can happen when you push the limits of “unbreakable”, “Remember how it felt to be the king of the sandpit? At Toyota we never forgot. When you push the limits of unbreakable, there’s no telling where you might end up.” – is the message conveyed in the 60-second spot, giving initially the impression that it is a Tonka in the desert (given the car’s design, embodying a mix of rock crawler and desert racer). As the spot comes to its end, we get to see that the car is actually slaloming on a sandpit in and out of sandpit toys, such as a plastic shovel and a plastic bucket, and a soccer ball.
The HiLux Tonka edition is a one-off special created by 150 designers and engineers working at Toyota headquarters in Melbourne, who got inspired by the Tonka trucks that kids play with in their backyards.
