Progressive Insurance has brought Flo back in a series of commercials promoting the company’s “Name Your Price” tool, which allows users pick a policy that fits their needs and budget.
In the “Air Flo” 30-second spot, the company’s iconic advertising mascot, portrayed by actress and comedian Stephanie Courtney, schools the competition, aware that people love Progressive’s Name Your Price tools and willing to use basketball dribbling techniques to get their attention, telling them what Progressive does. “We give people options based on their budget without naming a price tool”, says Flo, taking then the ball from the competition’s employees and shooting it through the basket. After scoring, as she is catapulted up in the air, says “Guess I have dunk more than I thought.. Uhh, gravity”.
The spot ends with the voiceover saying “Progressive’s Name Your Price Tool – You don’t have to be able to dunk to use it, but it helps”.
Flo is an up-beat store employee, with heavy make-up, retro hairstyle and white perfectly pressed uniform, who started appearing in Progressive commercials in 2008, and has starred since then in more than 100 commercials.
Created by the Boston-based agency Arnold Worldwide, Flo has, since 2011, an Australian counterpart, named Kitty and played by actress Holly Austin.
