Kate Mara returns to the silver screen this summer as Marine Corporal Megan Leavey in the biopic Megan Leavey, directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and set to be released on June 9.
The drama film tells the true story of young Megan, who forms a powerful bond with an aggressive combat dog named Rex, that saves her life after she is involved in an explosion, in Iraq.
The cast ensemble includes also Edie Falco as Megan’s mother, Common, Tom Felton, Ramón Rodríguez, Shannon Tarbet, Alex Hafner, Will Patton, Parker Sawyers, and others.
The trailer features Kate Mara’s character in different moments of her life, before joining the Marine and after, when she is asked to get a dog and is assigned with a job in Iraq. The encounter with Rex, described by a vet as “the most aggressive dog she’s ever treated”, and her attempt to train him are also shown, culminating with the explosion that almost kills her. Fortunately for her, Rex saved her and now she wants to show her gratitude by adopting him, even though this is not possible. “They’re warriors”, tells her a Marine officer referring to combat dogs. “This June, the Marine’s greatest mission is to bring a hero home” – is the message conveyed in the trailer, which continues with Mara’s character approaching two senators in her attempt to adopt Rex and talking to them about Rex, about how he saved thousands of lives in Iraq.
As the trailer comes to its end, viewers can see Mara’s character sharing her feelings in a support group and saying that she would thank Rex for teaching her what love is. The song used in the trailer is the single “Walk Through the Fire” by Zayde Wølf feat. Ruelle, from her 2016 album “Golden Age”.
