The American bank holding company specializing in credit cards, home loans, auto loans, banking and savings
products Capital One has released a new commercial starring Samuel L. Jackson, Charles Barkley and Spike Lee.
This time, the three friends watch with bated breath the final, heart-pounding seconds of a March Madness game
in the living room of the retired professional basketball player. “All comes down to this. One shot for the trip
to the Final Hour! This could be one to remember! And here we…” – says the sportscaster, while the trio wait
to see the final shot. At this point, though, Jackson claps his hands, which makes the lights and the TV turn
off. “What…What happened?”, he asks shouting in despair. Barkley claps again and turns the TV on, where the
sportscaster says “At the buzzer! Phenomenal!”. This is it: they missed the final shot due to Chuck’s outdated
technology.
“No, Charles, you have your TV on a clapper?”, asks Lee, nervous that because of this he didn’t see the game
till the very end.
“Of course”, answers Barkley, which makes Jackson raise another question: “You never clap during games?”.
“I clap in my head”, comes Barkley’s reply, who adds that “it gets pretty loud in there”.
“Noooo”, shout his two friends because they missed what the sportscaster defines as “one of the greatest shots
you’ll ever see”.
The spot ends with Capital One’s logo and tagline, “what’s in your wallet?”.
