Nike Commercial – Serena Williams

Nike has released a new commercial, promoting diversity, inclusion and equality.

The 90-second spot, titled “Equality” and raising the question “Is this the land history promised? This field of play”, features LeBron James, Serena Williams, Kevin Durant, Victor Cruz, Gabby Douglas, Megan Rapinoe, and Dalilah Muhammad, on their field of play: the basketball court, the tennis court, and so on.

After asking if “this is the land history promised”, the voiceover continues by saying: “Here, within these lines, on these concrete court, this patchy turf. Here, you’re defined by your actions, not your looks or beliefs. Equality should have no boundaries”.

“Opportunity should not discriminate. The ball should bounce the same for everyone. Worth should outshine colour”, adds the voiceover, ending the spot with a phrase finished by LeBron: “If we can be equals here… We can be everywhere”.

The song used in the ad is Sam Cooke’s 1964 single “A Change is Gonna Come”, performed by Alicia Keys, who
stands near a wall with the message “Equals Everywhere” on it.
