Google has released a new commercial for the Oscars night, inviting you to safely back up every photo and video in high quality, for free, with Google Photos app, for Android and iPhone.

The 60-second spot, titled “Google Photos: Best Picture”, features dozens of moments captured by users and the voiceover saying “This year, there are a lot of amazing contenders. Maybe the winner will be a comedy (the ad shows a man jumping in a pool using two tires as buoys). Or a drama (a woman sits on the hospital bed, next to her father). Or an action film, with state-of-the-art special effects (a man wearing nothing but shorts dives into the snow and the action is shown in slow-motion, and a little girl falls on her back, on the bed, after her dad makes a hand gesture – for Star Trek fans, he uses his Vader Force). There might be a big reveal (a whale gets out of the water near a gig with a woman in it, making her scream). A memorable song. An unlikely villain (a little boy pushing his elder twin brothers when their mom is trying to film them). An unexpected true love story – that’s always a crowd pleaser (the love story is between a dog and a cat, who show their affection to each other). Truth is, even a single standout performance could put any one of them over the top. But whether it’s a thriller (a young boy is frightened by a seagull) or a rom-com (a father jumps on a new mattress, in plastic, catapulting his daughter and making her fall off the bed), a horror-movie (an insect gets out of a stick), or a foreign film (a baby boy talks to the parent who’s filming him in his baby language).”

“The award for best picture will always belong to you”, concludes the voiceover, while the ad ends with a photo of
two guys at their wedding, with one of them kissing the other one’s temple.
