Adidas Originals has released a new commercial exploring the idea that future can be inspired by using the past and culture can be driven forward by recreating what is truly original, highlighting in the same time that “Original is Never Finished”.
The spot, created like a short film, features visionaries from the worlds of music, art, skate, and sport, all singing a remix of Frank Sinatra’s 1969 iconic song “My Way”. The cast ensemble includes Snoop Dogg, who recreates a chase scene through the rapper’s debut studio album cover, Doggystyle, the English grime and hip hop artist Stormzy, artist/photographer Petra Collins, who reinvents the Birth of Venus, two generations of basketballers, 2nd draft rookie Brandon Ingram and the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who mirror each other to illustrate the idea of passing of the torch from one basketball icon to a future one, the R&B singer Mabel, who leads a group of women while walking down a tunnel at night, Gary Lockwood aka Freehand Profit, who began creating gas masks from deconstructed sneakers, the American rapper, singer and songwriter Deja Trimble, better known as Dej Loaf, who pulls high fashion couture in one incredible visual, and skaters Gonz and Lucas Puig, who skate their own way through references from the past.
“Original is Never Finished” approaches today’s streetwear culture in a provocative way, aiming to inspire the new generation of creators to redefine their meaning of originality and to highlight that that by doing it your own way, anything can become original.
