Barclays Fraud Smart Advert 2016 – Cyber Crime

Barclays UK has released a new TV advert to raise awareness about the cyber crime and to inform viewers that Barclays never asks for any transaction confirmation by e-mail.

The 30-second spot introduces Karen, a bank customer, who has become the victim of cyber crime by replying to one e-mail. The voiceover narrates how it happened, based on Karen’s statement: “Karen was alone at home when she was maliciously robbed. The thieves took more than £2000. She realized too late, when both the criminals and her money were long gone. All she can remember was responding to an e-mail from what she thought was her bank, asking her to confirm the recent transaction”.
The spot ends with the voiceover saying “You can’t see cyber crime, but there are ways to avoid it. At Barclays we’ll never ask you to confirm any transaction by e-mail”.
