Old Spice came up with a new commercial, as part of their #SmellEm campaign, to advertise in an original way their man fresheners.
The “Five Year Plan” spot features two men, a young one and an older one, at a job interview.
“If I hired you, what’s your plan?”, asks the old man.
After smelling an Old Spice Swagger deodorant and putting it in his pocket, the young one answers:
“I see a few things changing. Less mergers and acquisitions. More charitable donations, receiving pats on the back, yes, but – most importantly – giving them…”
At this point, the two men shrink, becoming smaller and smaller, until their bodies leave the initial suits they were in, “travel” under the rug,
and switch. In the meantime, the voice of the young man can still be heard continuing the sentence, with the list of benefits: “accounts, 401k, nicknames, luggage, saving the wildlife, retiring on top, letting boredom get the best of me”.
“And then returning triumphantly”, finishes the young man his speech from the old man’s suit and place, letting the viewer understand that he was the one representing the hiring company, not the other way around.
“Smells like we’re done here”, adds turning his chair toward the wall and calling for his assistant, Linda.
The spot ends with Old Spice’s tagline: “Smell’em Who’s Boss” and with an Old Spice whistle.
