2016 will definitely be one of the most fructuous years for Alicia Vikander. After having received so much positive feedback from the critics for her roles in Testatament of Youth (2014), Ex Machina (2015) and The Danish Girl (2015), the latter bringing to her an Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress, the 27-year-old Swedish beauty
will play the main character, this year, in three films: Jason Bourne, Tulip Fever and The Light Between Oceans.
In The Light Between Oceans, set in post World War I Western Australia, Vikander plays Isabel, the wife of Tom Sherbourne, a lighthouse keeper. After a miscarriage, she finds a baby girl on a rowboat, next to a dead man, and begs her husband to raise the child as their own. The couple lead a happy life until one day, when they meet a particular woman.
The American-British drama film, based on M.L. Stedman’s 2012 novel of the same name, is set to be released in US theaters on September 2.
The beautiful actress and the 39-year-old German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender, who plays her husband, the lightshouse keeper, fell in love while making the film, in 2014, and they are now a real-life couple. However, the two kept their relationsip far from the press and refused to kiss, earlier this month, during a segment in the BAFTAs when a kiss-cam targeted celebrity couples.
