Big Little Lies Season 2 (HBO & Sky Atlantic Series) – Trailer Song

Big Little Lies Season 2

HBO’s Emmy award-winning series Big Little Lies returns this summer for its second season. The network has released a teaser trailer, giving viewers a glimpse into the lives of the five friends living in Monterey.

The drama miniseries, based on the best-selling book Liane Moriarty, who originally set the story in Australia, revolves around Madeline Mackenzie, Celeste Wright and Jane Chapman, three mothers in Monterey, California, who seem to have perfect lives. Their existence takes a dramatic turn, though, when a school scandal erupts and the truth begins to unravel. The story focuses on a murder mystery that slowly unfolds, bringing to surface various relationships.

The cast includes Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern and Adam Scott.

According to HBO, the second season, which sees “American Honey’s” Andrea Arnold joining the team as new director and Meryl Streep as cast addition, will “continue to explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting”.

The teaser features Woodley’s character, Jane, telling her friends about how she was approached on the beach by a surfer who asked her if she’s one of the Monterey Five, mentioning that the way he said it was like they all have “scarlet letters on their backs”. Zoë Kravitz, seen running down a forest road, tells Witherspoon’s character “It’s gonna get us, it’s gonna get us all”. Asked what she is talking about, she answers “The lie”. Streep’s character, Mary Louise Wright, says in voiceover “My son is dead. I want to know what happened that night. I attempted to ask you, but I…”. She is then seen face to face with Witherspoon’s character, telling her “I don’t think I would get the truth, would I?”, which leaves the latter speechless.

The song used in the trailer is “Cold Little Heart” by English indie and folk rock artist Michael Kiwanuka, which serves as the opening theme for the miniseries. The track is included on the singer/songwriter’s second studio album, “Love & Hate,” released in July 2016.

Season 2 of Big Little Lies, consisting of seven episodes, will launch on June 9 on HBO.
