Twitter Christmas Advert - Feat. John Lewis

Twitter UK has launched its Christmas film, telling the story of Mr. John Lewis, the American man repeatedly mistaken for the British retailer on Twitter.

Released with the hashtag #NotARetailStore, the 70-second spot opens with a small house from Blacksburg, Virginia (3,683 miles from the UK), where Mr. John Lewis lives. He is shown at his desk, reading and replying to tweets that were meant to tag the department store.

“Not afraid to admit it @johnlewis makes me feel like Christmas has arrived” one Twitter user claims. After thinking for one second, Mr. Lewis replies the user “Don’t tell my kids, it’s not even #Thanksgiving yet.” So does he in many other cases in which people on the social media network write messages to and/or for him, proving that he has the sense of humor.

The advert, featuring a special rendition of the song “In The Bleak Midwinter,” by Elizabeth Sankey, comes from creative agency The Romans and encourages people to join the conversation this Christmas, even if it’s by mistake.
