Warner Bros. has released the official teaser trailer for the upcoming New Line Cinema production “Shazam!”, the origin story that stars Zachary Levi as the titular DC Super Hero.
Directed by David F. Sandberg (also known for “Annabelle: Creation”) from a screenplay by Henry Gayden, the film is in the DC universe and revolves around streetwise 14-year-old foster kid Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel) who, after meeting an ancient wizard and saying his name – Shazam – turns into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi). Helped by his best friend, Freddy (played by Jack Dylan Grazer), he sets out to test the limits of his superpowers with the joyful recklessness of a child. He soon realizes that he needs to master his abilities quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (played by Mark Strong).
The cast also includes Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard, Cooper Andrews and Marta Milans as foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, and Jovan Armand.
The teaser features Billy’s encounter with the Wizard and his transformation into the Super Hero Shazam. His quest to find the limits of his powers and the way he uses them are also shown. Thus, viewers can see how he chases away some burglars in a store after realizing he is bulletproof and telling the shop owner, as he heads out, “Sorry about your window and you’re welcome for not getting robbed”.
The song used in the trailer is Kendrick Lamar’s 2017 single “HUMBLE.”, from his fourth studio album, “Damn.” The track became Lamar’s second number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 after “Bad Blood” and his first as a lead artist.
Shazam! is set for release on April 5, 2019.
