Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming series Chef’s Table: Pastry, which takes viewers inside the minds of the world’s most renowned pastry chefs and helps them discover the sweeter side of the Emmy-nominated series Chef’s Table.
The four-part show, created by filmmaker David Gelb, goes inside the lives and kitchens of four chefs, with an episode dedicated to each of them. Will Goldfarb, Corrado Assenza, Jordi Roca, and Christina Tosi, famous for her wildly popular and accessible “Crack Pie”, will take centre stage and share their stories and passion.
“When I was in Paris for pastry school, they were pretty clear this was a bad career,” reveals New York native Will Goldfarb, who traded the grit of Manhattan for the rice terraces of Bali. Assenza, the fourth generation of his family to manage the renowned pastry shop Caffé Sicilia, in the Sicilian town of Noto, is described as having pastry “in his genes”, and Roca, the pastry chef of the 3 Michelin star El Celler de Can Roca in Spain, who won, in 2014, the inaugural “World’s Best Pastry Chef” award from Restaurant magazine, also gets an interesting description from a friend: “For him, flavors are like colors, and he wants to paint with the whole box.” Tosi, founder and owner of Momofuku Milk Bar, called “one of the most exciting bakeries in the country” by Bon Appétit magazine, who’s featured preparing her iconic cookies, says “You’re going for a cookie being like ‘I know maybe this cookie is not gonna round out my diet, but it’s what’s gonna bring me joy'”.
The song used in the trailer is “I Want Candy”, written and originally recorded by the Strangeloves in 1965, that reached No. 11 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Chef’s Table: Pastry will premiere worldwide on Netflix this spring, on April 13.
