Hulu has released a teaser trailer for the second season of its highly-acclaimed series The Handmaid’s Tale, awarded with the Golden Globe for TV’s “Best Show of the Year”, giving viewers a first look into what’s coming in the new episodes.
Based on Margaret Atwood’s classic novel, the series follows June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), one of the few fertile women known as Handmaids in the oppressive Republic of Gilead, a totalitarian society where these women are forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world, as she struggles to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
Now going beyond the book, Offred has more than one life to fight for in the highly anticipated new season, according to the streaming service.
Soundtracked by Malia J’s dramatic cover version of Buffalo Springfield’s 1967 hit single “For What It’s Worth”, the trailer features dialogue-free images depicting the enigmatic “colonies”, June in full Handmaid regalia and with a muzzle, Janine (Madeline Brewer) standing in a sunlit field, Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) approaching a gagged man in the woods with gun in hand, and June meeting up with the father of her unborn child, played by Max Minghella.
The Handmaid’s Tale is set to premiere on April 25 with two new episodes, the subsequent episodes being released subsequently every Wednesday.
