A24 has released the trailer for the upcoming psychological horror-thriller The Killing of a Sacred Deer, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
With a script by Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou, the film follows surgeon Steven Murphy as he forms a bond with a sinister teenage boy named Martin, with dramatic consequences.
The trailer begins with a young girl played by English actress Raffey Cassidy, who portrays Steven’s daughter, Kim, in the company of Martin, played by Irish actor Barry Keoghan, singing Ellie Goulding’s “Burn” under a tree. Her performance is heard throughout the entire trailer, which reveals that Martin, who dates Kim and is taken by Steven under his wings, has a sinister behavior and hints that he has revenge plans.
The cast also includes Nicole Kidman as Steven’s wife, Alicia Silverstone as Martin’s mother, Bill Camp, Denise Dal Vera, Sunny Suljic, and others.
The film premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Best Screenplay Award, and is set to be released in the US this fall, on October 27. The release is the UK is scheduled for November 17.
