HBO has released the official trailer for its upcoming original series The Deuce, set to premiere on September 10.
Created by George Pelecanos and David Simon, the new HBO drama takes viewers back to Times Square in early 1970s, at the pioneering moments of what would become the billion-dollar American sex industry, following the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry through the mid-1980s. Among the main characters there are twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino (played by James Franco), who become fronts for the Mob while operating out of Times Square, Candy (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal), a Times Square sex worker who turns to the now legal emerging porn industry, and others.
The trailer features Candy (Eileen Marrell by her real name) saying she wants to learn how to make movies and being confident that, “if they can sell that in Europe, it’s not gonna be long before we can make it sell here” because “it’s America”.
The song used in the trailer is “Move On Up” by American singer-songwriter Curtis Mayfield, from his 1970 debut album “Curtis”.
