What happens when you combine Olympic diver Tom Daley with the HTC U11? The Taiwanese consumer electronics company shows you in a new ad, aiming to highlight the phone’s Edge Sense and IP67 water resistance rating.
The spot, filmed at the London Aquatics Centre, features the 23-year-old British diving star doing a back flip off a ten metres diving board, and taking selfies in the meantime with the HTC U11, which boasts the world’s first squeezable selfie camera, Edge Sense and an IP67 water resistance rating. The medal winner has reportedly managed to get the perfect shot after a few hours of diving and dozens of attempts.
“I love taking a selfie so when the challenge arose to try and take one and capture myself mid dive, I obviously jumped at the chance.” – said Daley of this collaboration with HTC.
He mastered the selfie by performing the “gainer” dive, a slow rotation move where the diver does a backwards somersault while still moving forward.
The new front camera of the HTC U11 combines high-resolution 16MP detail and UltraPixel light sensitivity for brilliant selfies day or night, while also utilizing the same powerful HDR Boost and noise reduction as the main camera.
The HTC U11 is available this month for £649 from HTC.com/uk and $649 from HTC.com/us.
The song playing in the commercial is “Fun” Andy Powell ft. Linda Roan.
